Declare the immobilisation of a private vehicle

You can declare the immobilisation (storage) of your private vehicle (passenger car or motorcycle) needing to return its plates to the Tax Office (DOY) while benefiting in relation to the payment of vehicle tax.

You will need to:

  • your personal Taxisnet credentials
  • to store the vehicle in an enclosed and fenced area (owned, leased or ceded)
  • if the vehicle is owned by more than one persons, to have ensured the approval of co-owners

After filing the declaration, you need to remove the plates from the vehicle and keep them.

Please note that you can declare the immobilisation of your vehicle even if you still have vehicle tax year debts incurred during any year of its circulation.

The co-owners receive a message to this end, in their personalised information section of the Taxisnet platform, and are given the option to approve or reject the circulation of the vehicle. As soon as all approvals are given, the co-owners are informed by a similar message or email.

It is not necessary to electronically declare the immobilisation of vehicles if:

  • they have been stolen or do not have a registration licence and/or plates
  • they are in circulation in a foreign country
  • they are in the process of being transferred to a new owner
  • they have been completely confiscated or their plates have been removed by a public authority
  • they have been given for recycling to the network of partners of the Alternative Vehicle Management (EDOE) scheme, have been completely destroyed due to fire or any other cause or have been abandoned by their owners
  • they have been auctioned off
  • their owner passed away
