Claim a birth allowance

You can apply to get your child's birth allowance if you have not already done so when registering the birth at the maternity hospital or if the birth took place at home.
The application is filed by the mother or the person who has sole custody of the child, within three months from the child's birth.

Requirements

  • the child must have been born alive in Greece
  • the family income equivalent does not exceed the amount of 40,000 Euros per year
  • the beneficiary resides permanently and legally in Greece and is either a Greek citizen, an expatriate foreigner, an EU member state citizen, a citizen of an EEA state, or a citizen of a third country continuously residing in Greece since 2012
  • the application must be filed within three months from the child's birth

  • your personal Taxisnet credentials
  • your Social Insurance Number (AMKA)
  • your bank account number (IBAN) in a Greek financial institution
  • your mobile phone number and email address

Details of the allowance
The amount of the allowance is two thousand Euros (€2,000), while in the case of a twin pregnancy, the allowance amounts to four thousand Euros (€4,000) and is unseizable.
The amount is deposited in two (2) equal instalments of one thousand (1,000.00) Euros each, as follows:

  • the 1st instalment in the month following the child's birth, if the application is filed and approved within the month of the child's birth, and
  • the 2nd instalment, five months from the month of the child's birth

Please note that for special cases of beneficiaries, the application needs to be filed to the Community Centre of the Municipality of your residence.
