You can declare the birth of your child at the maternity hospital where the delivery took place.
The declaration of birth must be made by:
- the parents of the newborn jointly
- the father of the newborn, in case of death of the mother or due to the culpable abandonment of the child by its mother
- the mother in the case of a single-parent family
You will need to produce to the maternity hospital only the necessary identification documents of both parents, i.e.:
- for Greek citizens, the identity card, passport or driving licence
- for citizens of an EU member state, the valid identity card or passport of their country
- for third-country nationals, the valid passport or other travel document recognised by international conventions, as well as the visa to enter Greece or the residence permit proving that they have entered and reside legally in Greece, the international protection applicant's card for those who have been granted asylum.
as well as to declare:
- your mobile phone number and email address
- the IBAN of your bank account of a credit institution operating in Greece
after the filing of the application to the maternity hospital, the following actions take place automatically:
- the birth registration certificate is issued
- a Social Insurance Number (AMKA) is attributed to the newborn
- the child is registered in the family record
- the child is registered in the respective insurance institution
- an application for the birth allowance is created
You will receive a text message (sms) on your mobile phone for the successful or unsuccessful completion of the above actions.
