You can apply for parental leave benefit from the Public Employment Service (PES) as long as you:
- you are employed in the private sector, for one (1) year, with the same employer and in any employment relationship
- you are the guardian of one or more children up to the age of eight (8) years
Once your application has been submitted and the employer has posted the special "parental leave" form E14 on the "ERGANI" application portal, the allowance will be paid into your bank account.
The 4-month parental leave is granted continuously or in parts for both parents and is subject to an allowance (equal to the minimum wage) from the Public Employment Service (DYPA) for its first two months.
Please note the following:
- If you have more than one child, you are entitled to parental leave also for them, provided that one year of actual employment with the same employer has elapsed since the end of the leave granted for the previous child.
- Exceptionally, the parents of twins, triplets or even multiple children, are entitled to receive a parental leave for each child separately, intermittently or even continuously, without the requirement of the one year period of actual service.
- In the case of adoption or fostering of a child up to eight years of age, the parental leave is granted from the date the child is integrated into the family.
- If you have already taken leave under the previous institutional framework and if this leave had not expired on 19 June 2021 (i.e when the new law entered into force), you are entitled to a parental leave allowance.
- The period of leave during which the employee receives an allowance from the Public Employment Service (DYPA) is considered to be a period of insurance coverage in the main pension and sickness branches of your insurance institution, as well as of the relevant institutions of supplementary insurance.
- At your request, the parental leave may be granted alternatively in the form of reduced daily working hours or of days of leave, without prejudicing your right to receive the parental leave allowance.
You will need your personal Taxisnet credentials
Please note that applications already submitted to Employment Promotion Centres (KPA2) of DYPA in the period before the online application system entered into service do not need to be submitted again online.
